The Best Robot Vacuums for 2022

I decided to do a little research on the best robot vacuums for 2022.  While researching, it was very clear that iRobot dominates this space.  Accordingly, I’ve decided to limit my choice to an iRobot product.  That is the the parent company of Roomba.  To be sure, iRobot has put a ton of money into researching this space.  After all, they were the original and are still the best.  Alternatively, I’ve included a few competitors that caught my eye but not so much that I was persuaded.

This is the Roomba 600 series.  First, it’s only $179.  Next, it vacuums pretty well.  Thirdly, it’s the original Roomba, not a lot of technology.  In conclusion, this is probably too low tech for me.

This is the Roomba i4.  First, it has most of the bells and whistles.  Plus, 60 days without changing bag.  Finally, for $399 (with base), it’s not out of contention.  Also, 10x more sucking power than 600 series.

**Family Robotics Pick**

This is the Roomba j7 series.  Basically, this is brand new.  Undoubtedly, it has all the technology.  However, it’s $849.  And, it’s only slightly more advanced then the i4.  Still, we went back and forth because we liked the design.

This is the Roomba s9.  First, it’s $1,299 (with base and mop).  Unfortunately, that’s a little too rich for me.  However, if you have tons of money or are fanatic about a clean house, this may be for you.  It has 40x the suction.  Also, it has a design to get into corners better.

iRobot i4 - Family Robotics #1 in Best Robotic Vacuums for 2022

This was Family Robotics favorite. First, the price was reasonable, even with the base it was $399.  Next, it has 10x sucking power as 600 series, same as j7.  Lastly, it is stylish and high-tech.  Obviously, this was the robot we ultimately decided to buy.  However, we decided not to go with the optional mop package ($675) at this time.  It just seemed too expensive for us.

And, the competitors...

At this point in time, iRobot is still the name to beat.  Although, some of these are really great machines.  Also, the technology and sensors on some of these are going to be great features.  That’s why we are looking forward to all the improvements on these products and as an industry.  Maybe one day they will evolve into personal robots.  Here are the closest competitors to each of the iRobot models listed above.

This is the Shark AV753.  First, it’s $229, $50 more  than the Roomba 694.  Next, it’s a Shark, not a Roomba.  Although Shark has a good vacuum name, it’s new to the robot vacuum space.  In conclusion, the Roomba has a better name and is lower priced.

This is the Shark AV2501AE.  First, it has all of the bells and whistles of the Roomba i4.  Including the 60 days without changing bag.  Finally, for $449 (with base), it’s a little bit more than the i4.  We stuck with the i4.

This is the Roborock s7.  This is brand new, too.  Undoubtedly, it has all the technology as the Roomba j7.  And, it’s sleek style and slimmer containers are a match.  However, it costs $949.  Although that is more than the j7, it includes a mop.  Again, we are not prepared to spend $1,000 at this stage of the technology.  However, we will be keeping our eye on this one.

This is the Samsung Jetbot.  First, it’s $1,157 (with base bot no mop).  Unfortunately, that’s too much for just a vacuum.  However, we did like the look of it.  It’s also Samsung, a good name.   Again, we would go with the Roomba.
